May 17, 2025 · Winnipeg, Manitoba
This May wedding took place entirely inside Winnipeg’s Victoria Inn, with the couple and wedding party preparing on site before moving into the ceremony and evening reception. With the weather keeping us indoors throughout the day, the hotel became the complete setting for their wedding story.
Rather than letting the lack of outdoor portraits limit the coverage, I focused on the available window light, the relationships between the couple and their families, and the changing atmosphere as the hotel moved from preparations to ceremony and finally to the celebration that followed.

Getting Ready at the Victoria Inn
Both the bride and groom prepared at the Victoria Inn, allowing the photography to begin quietly before the ceremony. Getting-ready coverage included the details they had chosen for the day, portraits using the hotel-room window light, and the smaller interactions happening around them as everyone prepared.
I like this portion of a wedding day to remain largely documentary. Rather than continually directing what is happening, I watch for the details and expressions that help establish the story before the ceremony begins.

An Indoor Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place inside the hotel, surrounded by the couple’s family and friends. Keeping the full day in one location made the transition from preparations into the ceremony simple, while still giving each part of the day its own atmosphere.
During the ceremony, my attention shifts toward moments that cannot be repeated—the couple’s expressions, the exchange of vows, reactions from the people closest to them, and the first moments after they are married.

The ceremony was photographed primarily as it unfolded, preserving the expressions and interactions that made the moment theirs.
Wedding Party Portraits Inside the Hotel
With the weather keeping everyone indoors, we used the ceremony space for the formal portraits that followed. Keeping the portraits close to the ceremony location also made it easier to photograph a large wedding party without taking everyone away from the celebration for an extended period.
These photographs were created efficiently, balancing the traditional group portraits the couple wanted with the more candid moments happening throughout the rest of the day.

From Ceremony to Reception
Following the ceremony and portraits, the room was transformed for the reception. Because the entire wedding took place at the Victoria Inn, the story of the day became less about travelling between locations and more about watching one space change as the celebration progressed.
Reception coverage included the room and details, moments at the head table, the couple’s first dance, and the guests enjoying the evening together.
