The Story: A powerful scene capturing **Manitoba's second-highest waterfall**, where the **Grass River** drops 13 metres (42.7 feet) and changes direction to jet down a scenic gorge. The name *Pisew* translates from the local Cree language for "lynx", referring to the hissing sound the water makes, which resembles a lynx's hiss. The image, captured in September 2009, perfectly balances the powerful, cascading water with the rugged, granite rock and the lush, green boreal forest of the **Canadian Shield** typical of Northern Manitoba. A short boardwalk leads to observation platforms, and a nearby bridge provides access to trails to the top of the falls and the longer hike to Kwasitchewan Falls. This photo freezes a breathtaking second of raw, untamed Canadian nature in the North.
