Redhead Hen

CAD $68.00
Print Name: Redhead Hen
Captured: September 2023 | Location: **Oak Hammock Marsh**, Manitoba, Canada
The Story: A powerful scene capturing a **female Redhead duck** (*Aythya americana*) in flight, taken at the renowned **Oak Hammock Marsh Wildlife Management Area**. This restored prairie marsh is a designated Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, a critical staging area for hundreds of thousands of waterfowl during peak migration. Female redheads are a uniform brown with a distinctive, rounded head shape and a blue-gray bill with a dark tip. In flight, they display a subtle gray wing stripe against their otherwise dark wings and have a rapid, erratic flight pattern. Redheads are omnivores, feeding by diving or dabbling for aquatic plants and invertebrates, and are notorious for laying eggs in the nests of other duck species. This image freezes a breathtaking second of this magnificent Canadian wildlife in motion.
