The sky is a tumultuous display of dark, swirling storm clouds overhead, while a patch of vibrant golden light breaks through the gloom, intensely illuminating a field of freshly baled hay in the foreground. This intense contrast highlights the raw, untamed power and beauty of a prairie storm, a common summer occurrence in the region. The storm quickly went tornadic as it raced and rotated south-southeast across the open terrain shortly after this photo was taken. The image freezes a breathtaking second of this majestic display of nature's fury and the resilience of the agricultural landscape.
