The Story: A compelling scene of an **American White Pelican**, one of North America's largest birds with a wingspan up to 3 metres (9.8 feet). This iconic bird, a beloved emblem of Manitoba where over a third of the global breeding population resides, is captured here in the scenic **Whiteshell Provincial Park** near Rainbow Falls. Pelicans use their large, pouched bills to cooperatively herd and scoop up fish, often near rapids or dams where food is concentrated. During the May breeding season, both males and females grow a unique, temporary "horn" on the top of their beak, which is shed after the eggs are laid. This image captures the bird in its natural element, showcasing the striking white plumage, bright yellow-orange bill, and the unique breeding-season horn, freezing a breathtaking second of this magnificent Canadian wildlife.
